Chase Perfect Card Perfect?

Postby Gus » Thu May 20, 2004 10:32 am

I am looking for a gas credit card that gives rewards on gas AND OTHER PURCHASES.

I DO NOT want more than one card. I buy all types of gas, depending on the price.

Is the Chase Perfect Card the best choice for me? I realize that there are other gas cards (like AAA) that pay more than 3%, but I want ONE card that I can use as a back up to my AMEX, so that I only have two cards.

Also, I want instant monthly gratification on my next statement. I do not want a gas card where you need to wait for the reward until you hit a certain tier.

Gus, It seems like CHASE PERFECT/FREEDOM CARD is the perfect card for you...It is the only card that satisfies ALL THE CRITERIA you listed...
Although there are cards that give higher rebates; they will fall short in some category you listed...Unless there is something new on the horizon;
CHASE is the one for you.

Can you believe ...

that I was promoted to 5% user for Chase freedom (after a huge fight with Chase ... long story, Sigmaman)? So, for gasoline, one has AAA (5%), Citi (5% for gas, supermarket, drugstore, maximum of $300 per year; can only get rebate once it exceeds $100), and Discover (5%). All come in handy in this over-$2/G era. FYI.

Best wishes.

How did you get Chase to convert you to the 5% tier ?...I was an original SHELL mastercard from CHASE charter member; then they gave me the FREEDOM CARD with charter member status, still no 5%...HOW DID YOU DO IT ???? if you need to e-mail me .... let me know in this thread.

Sigmaman, with difficulties, ...

I took advantage that several CSRs and supervisors were rude to me when I inquired about the 5% offer and brought the issues higher and higher.

In my special case, there are also a lot of other "situations" that I can take advantage of. For example, the fact that Chase had the charter memebrship and then eliminated it without explanation also helped my case.

In sum, it took a long time, several letters, and some excellent (empathetic) personnel at Chase to get my 5% status. Chase stated that it was not the seniority, but the long-term spending pattern, that drives their selection. They stand strongly by their selection and that is why it is next to impossible to revoke their decision. For me, Chase mentioned that it is a "one-time" courtesy for a "valued" customer.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the info and the encouraging words... Your conquest has sparked new life into my quest to join the 5% elite at chase... and while I'm at it; I'll take a few dollars and play LOTTO... I'll probably have a better chance at winning LOTTO than getting CHASE to roll over.

Good luck to you.

Actually, we have so many choices these days that the Chase 5% gasoline rebate offer is just one of the many options we have.

Best wishes.

I have had the Chase Freedom Card since May of last year. I was not a Shell Mastercard holder previously. I spend about $300-$400 monthly, as a backup to AMEX.

Do you guys think there is ANY chance of getting the 5%? Can I huff and puff and hold my breathe, or is it hopeless even to try?

I hate to threaten them because I really do like the card, even at 3%. Plus, I knew what the terms were when I applied.

Any tips on how to get to the "elite" status of 5%?

Verne or Eugene or any one have any ideas?
Michael
