ExxonMobil Mastercard: Best Gas Card Going !!!

I just wanted everyone to know that at the current gas price in my area (Chicago) of about $1.76, the ExxonMobil Mastercard, which pays 15 cents per gallon, is the best gas card around. The rebate into over 8.5% !! Plus, the percentage will go even higher as the price of gas goes down !

This card wasn't so great at 3% for gas, but since they have revamped their rebate program, this is the card to use for gas, if you have Exxon or Mobil stations in your area that are competitive. It even out-trumps Shell Mastercard, as long as gas stays at under $3 per gallon (5%). I just hope that Citibank, who am I sure never anticipated gas prices this low when they revamped this card, doesn't figure out that this deal is perhaps too sweet.

I've looked at this card recently. Right now gas has been creeping up to around $2.65 a gallon in my area. The effective gas rebate based on that price would be 5.66%. Ignoring gasoline, if you spent $10,000 on the card in a year your effective rebate would calculate to 1.35% based on the following tiers:

0.5% rebate from $0-$999
1.0% rebate from $999-$5999
2.0% rebate from $5999-$10,000
1.0% rebate from $10,000-up

That's not bad versus the multitude of 1% (and less) rebate cards that seem to be taking over the industry.
